Barbet Schroeder approached Pink Floyd for another film score, this time for La Vallee. Recorded over two weeks at a studio near Paris, it marked a return to shorter, more self-contained songs after the grand epics of Atom Heart Mother and Echoes, and - recorded during early performances of the developing piece The Dark Side Of The Moon - it gives a definite feel of a companion piece or stylistic forerunner to that subsequent album.

As with the music Pink Floyd did for the film More, La Vallee used the songs sparingly and via things like car radios. Two of the songs on the album (Mudmen and Stay) didn’t appear on the soundtrack.
