ALBUM
The Wall
The Wall is Roger Waters’ partly autobiographical story of a rock star - Pink - taking stock of his life, with bricks representing things that have caused him pain during his life.
His mother, overprotective, school, brutal teachers, relationships, etc. Waters had come up with the concept in 1977, during the Animals tour, with the tipping point being a show in Montreal at the end of the run of concerts. So disenchanted with things, he pictured a wall between the band and audience.
The album (and subsequent concerts and film) explore the building of that wall, before reconciliation comes at the end with the collapse of the edifice - does it truly mark a conclusion, or just the start of the cycle again?
The album is a powerful look at life through the eyes of Pink, as his mental state starts fragmenting, and the subsequent concerts - first by Pink Floyd, then at a later stage, Roger Waters once he’d left the band - were visual and aural tour de forces.
