The Endless River
As a tribute to Richard Wright, who died in 2008, David Gilmour, assisted by Nick Mason, revisited sessions recorded in 1993 for The Division Bell to create The Endless River. 20 hours of unused instrumental material was unearthed on various mediums, and guitarist and producer Phil Manzanera painstakingly listened and assembled a rough mix.
This was worked on by Manzanera along with Andy Jackson and Youth, resulting in a double album, chiefly instrumental with the exception of Louder Than Words.
The lyrics for that were inspired by the historic Live 8 reunion of Gilmour, Mason, Wright and Roger Waters, with Gilmour and co-lyricist Polly Samson recalling how the band members used to communicate with each other and create the music they did.
The album is a fascinating look at later period Pink Floyd.
